When I feel sad On a sunny day Someone didn't get the memo I want the clouds to come my way Match my tears on a sunny day Grandma was sick on a sunny day Someone didn't get the memo Warmth on my skin, I can't do this today People suffer on a sunny day When I'm feeling sad and bad There's no sense at all In blue skies and being glad I turn my face from the window I'm miserable on a sunny day Someone didn't get the memo I should be out but I wanna stay Feeling guilty on a sunny day When I'm feeling sad and bad There's no sense at all In blue skies and being glad I turn my face from the window When I'm feeling sad and bad There's no sense at all In blue skies and being glad I turn my face from the window I turn my face from the window I turn my face from the window

I heard there was treasure at the other side And so I tried to climb up the sky I heard it was near the lighthouse Where the watercolours run I tried not to chase after the fabled light And i locked my dreams up for the night It was fleeting thought Reaching for the top And sliding down the other side Seeds wait for spring, and I’m waiting too Seeds wait for spring, and I’m waiting too Pretending that pot of gold is true And guess what I tried to climb up the sky And I fell down down down down I tried to draw a beast, and then a god, A dragon, a cyclops, and other pretences I tried to lose my growing defences And guess what I tried to climb up the sky And I fell down down down down Seeds wait for spring, and I’m waiting too Seeds wait for spring, and I’m waiting too Pretending that pot of gold is true And guess what I tried to climb up the sky And I fell down down down down I fell down down down down

Dead Weather 03:53
Tired of winter then summer then winter again, Weather keeps us down, he says Stuck in a loop, in a terrible mood Counting the days He calls it dead weather The weather has died there's nothing for him any more It's told by the skies Some people say you can break through the fog But he's made his mind up The climate is dour, each passing hour Fuels the fire that he's built up Everywhere that he looks it's the same That's not how it should be Rain makes us duller, he's waiting for summer Dreaming how it could be He calls it dead weather The weather has died There's nothing for him any more It's told in the skies When he feels ready he's going to move Bleak dark to hotter climes A different person, life will improve Full of life and always outside. He calls it dead weather The weather has died There's nothing for him any more It's told by the skies He calls it dead weather He calls it dead weather He calls it dead weather The weather has died

Travelling 03:58
Sitting by the window when I was a kid See it crack over the entire sky Lucky enough to see it Captivated by the thunderous sigh Travelling The storm is travelling Travelling The storm is travelling Travelling The storm is travelling Travelling The storm is travelling

about

Inspired by conversations about the weather with local Aberdonian communities, the EP explores the effect the unpredictable and often extreme weather in Scotland has on people’s moods and routines, as well as the language used to describe it.

Nice Day, Isn’t It? was born out of a project for Aberdeen Performing Arts’ Wonderland Festival 2022, which celebrated community gardens that kept many neighbourhoods connected throughout lockdown.

Rebecca’s compositions were written to amplify the sense of community that the garden projects provided, as a place where people could get their daily exercise and socialise outdoors when indoor spaces weren’t accessible.

When Rebecca was commissioned to write the material for the Wonderland Festival, she decided to organise creative workshops for volunteers in community gardens across Aberdeen, where she invited people to talk to her about the weather, and their experiences of it in the city and further afield.

Rebecca Dunn explained: “For the making of Nice Day, Isn’t It?, I took prompt images and questions with me to the workshops, to help spark conversation. We discussed what people from different countries and regions call certain kinds of weather in their language or dialect, how different types of weather make people feel, what the last few years were like, and what they hope for the future, using weather terms. People spoke about their memories of the weather where they grew up, and their experience of it in Aberdeen, and that gave me so much inspiration for the EP. It was fantastic to get so many different perspectives on something we all experience every day and I’m so pleased to be releasing the resulting material into the world for others to enjoy.”
